Biweekly Wednesday classes Taught by Dr. Xiaobo Yu and other Chinese faculty/Staff members at Kean

The course starts with the pronunciation of basic sounds and tones in Mandarin Chinese, using “Pinyin” spelling system.

Each class focuses on basic language components. Each class has a theme, such as greetings, counting things.

Each class has a structured session with common topics for all students, followed by small group sessions accommodating variable learning needs suitable to different skill levels.

Small group sessions focus on oral communication practices. Recognition of basic characters (simplified or traditional) will be taught upon request.

Language Related Cultural Background will be introduced. Students and instructors will have a chance to share linguistic/cultural experiences related to Chinese speaking skills.

Audio tapes & interactive software packages are available for off- class usage.

Textbooks at different levels are available for individual or group usage.
