Today’s Outcomes To understand the Response to Instruction and Intervention process at our school To learn how I can help to ensure my child’s academic success and mastery of their grade level standards To understand what services are available for my child if they need extra time or support in their learning 2

Supporting All Learners Three Tiers of Instruction – Tier 1 – Tier 2 – Tier 3 Lets take a look at what these terms mean. 3

Supporting All Learners Tier 1 Instruction – Explicit direct instruction – Effective classroom strategies – A variety of group sizes – Differentiated instruction – Individualized support 4

Tier 1-How Can I Help? Set the stage for learning Talk to your child about their day Ensure your child completes their homework each day in a quiet location Encourage your child to read each day Actively communicate your concerns with your child’s teacher Attend conferences and meetings 5

Additional Time and Support Tier 2 – 30 extra minutes during the day K-6 – Intervention classes 7-8 – Before and/or after school classes 6

Tier 2-How Can I Help? Contact your child’s teacher for a meeting to discuss their progress Ask about the site intervention or student study team and make an appointment to discuss your concerns When we notify you of a before or after school class, make sure your child attends as this critical in their success 7

Tier 3 4th-8th Language! Class Smaller groups/Individual support in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and/or reading comprehension K-6 8

How Can I Help? Know your child’s Language! teacher Attend additional parent conferences with the Language! teacher Find out how you can help at home Attend scheduled meetings of the student support team 9

Decision Making How is the decision made as to what additional support might be needed? – Site support team – Assessment information Periodic assessments Common formative assessments Progress monitoring 10
