Crickhowell Should Have a Swimming Pool The diversity and range of service provision is variable

Services : Features of an area that help improve the quality of life of people living in it. They range from shops to healthcare to leisure and entertainment and the provision of reliable supplies of clean water, sewage disposal and electricity. Provision of services varies with size of settlement.

Scattergraph - msact.shtml msact.shtml We can do size of settlement and swimming pool area. Positive / negative / random Best fit line

Threshold: is the minimum number of people needed to support a service. Rural areas – may have a lower threshold for some services than urban areas Would the best fit line go through the origin? How many people needed before any services are offered?

Access to services varies – several factors affect this.

Range: this can mean the maximum distance people are prepared to travel to access a service. Diversity: this can mean the variety of different types of service offered in a settlement.

????? clustered random linear regular Motorway service stations High street banks in a town Primary schools in a large town ?? Swimming pools in Powys ?? Describing Distributions

Pattern - Reason Motorway service stations have a regular and linear pattern …… so that their customers can stop at regular intervals along the motorway for fuel or a rest. High-street banks are clustered in the centre of town … … because they attract their customers from a large catchment area so they need a prominent location in the centre of town. Primary schools are distributed quite regularly throughout a large town …… so that every young child has a primary school that is easily accessible from their home.

Distribution – swimming pools in Birmingham

Distribution - POWYS
