Middle Ages  Day #1

Emotions:  Open your journal to a new page  For each of the following pictures, write down the emotion you see

We all have them  Why did we look at these? Jot one idea down in your journal. Guess why I did this activity  Answer: Emotions are …  Now, in your journal, explain which emotion is key for survival. Explain why

Happiness!  Most of the people in the class chose happiness.  Sooooo, what makes you happy?  Make a list of things that make you happy  Share with your partner  Share out one thing that makes you happy

Is Happiness Timeless?  Are the things that make you happy the same things that make a teen in Afghanistan happy? Or Peru? Or Russia?  What parts of happiness are universal?  Placemat activity  Share out with the class

Our Criteria for Happiness  Is there anything in our list that shouldn’t be there? Anything that is not completely universal for happiness to be achieved?  We have now created our criteria for universal happiness  These are things that will help us be happy

Are we happier now or in the past?  Take out a piece of paper.  Write down what you think happiness is.  Are teens happier now in today’s society or were they happier 1000 years ago during the Middle Ages?  Make some predictions: Winner of the Superbowl, amount of snow we’re going to get in February, winner of All Star game, will Corbin’s team beat Kelowna tonight, … other predictions.
