REMEMBERANCE

Over the past few weeks our group have been researching remembrance. We have also interviewed many people, including parents, grandparents and siblings. The majority of the people we interviewed agreed that the best way to remember on remembrance day is to not only learn about it, but to get people involves in fun activities and get creative.

We have put together a few ideas of which we think will be good for you to use in your museum to make remembrance day a more memorable day for everyone.

Poppy Finger Prints Our First idea is called poppy fingerprints. This idea is mainly for children but anyone else who wishes to, can join in. As you would come into the museum you would put your fingerprint in the middle of a paper cut out poppy. When you have looked around the museum, you would then write on the petals of your poppy, what you have learnt during today at the museum about remembrance day.

You would then get your photo taken with your poppy. If you are with a school group then the rest of the pupils who wish to can have their pictures taken with their poppies and then we would take down your school name and address and send to your school an enlarged collage photo of you and your school friends with your poppies. We think that this is a good idea because it helps the children think more about remembrance day and what it is really about. It also helps them to learn about remembrance whilst having fun too. 7 Poppy Patch Our second idea is called poppy patch. This idea is for anyone who wishes to join in. It is a place within the museum grounds where you are able to come and plant a poppy on remembrance day to show your appreciation for those people who risked their lives and that died in the war fighting for their county and to save our lives. There would be a big poppy patch for people to plant their poppies and it would only cost a small donation of 10p per seed. We think that this is a good idea because it gives people a chance to show their appreciation and remember those important people on this special day.

Drawing competition Our third idea is a competition that is open to people of all ages. We would list a few ideas to do with remembrance that they could draw in our competition. The best picture would then win a prize. The choice of prize is down to you as the museum. We think that this is a good idea because it engages the children and others and helps them get involved.

Remembrance wall Our fourth and final idea is a commemorative wall where people who come into the museum can bring a picture of someone who they have lost and stick it on this wall with a piece of text underneath saying anything they want it to. It could even just be a name. If they have not brought a picture they could draw one if they wished. We think that this is a good idea because it gives people the chance to remember not only the people that died in war but people that died in the holocaust, in natural disasters, accidents or even just of old age. They could even put up a picture of a beloved pet that they have lost.

Thank you for listening to our ideas, and we hope you would like to choose them to use in your museum
