Military When he was 13, he and his brothers joined the local militia. They were captured by the British. Jackson was slashed by an officer for refusing to clean his boots. His brother died in jail just before his mother got them from a prisoner exchange. After that his mother went to be a nurse and died which left Jackson an orphan.
