Cyberinfrastructure - Collaborative Portal for the IOOS Super-Regional Modeling Testbed Sara Graves, Manil Maskey, Ken Keiser Information Technology & Systems Center University of Alabama in Huntsville U.S. IOOS Super-Regional Modeling Testbed 2 Kickoff Meeting October 6, 2011

Testbed Portal for Collaborative Data Management Goals – Provide centralized gateway for all Testbed related resources (data, tools, documents, events, reports etc.) – Provide ways to share knowledge – Provide effective ways to collaborate – Provide authoring, saving, editing, publishing of contents – Provide indexing, categorizing and searching of contents – Provide role based access to resources – Preserve Testbed knowledgebase

Testbed Collaborative Portal Current Features – Public and private (access-controlled) views of portal information – Team-specific dashboards – Role-based categorization of portal content (pubs, presentations, documents) – Provided hosting of external and internal tools – Prototyped data management tools for search and access – Provided content and support for project reports and management inquiries – Collaborative authoring of contents Forums Comments Syndications

Data Catalog related activities within Collaborative Portal Catalog Discussion and Prototyping of Tools Evaluation of Catalog Service for Web (CSW) with ncISO output Catalog use case development THREDDS Browser and RAMADDA Interface OpenSearch based data search

Testbed Collaborative Portal THREDDS Browser/RAMADDA Interface Developed THREDDS Explorer to browse Model Output Provides OPeNDAP links to Model Output Developed RAMADDA catalog interface to search and discover

Testbed Collaborative Portal Data Search OpenSearch interface to current Testbed catalog Map based interface Keyword based filtered search Advantage of integrated tools: ability to save/publish/share

Testbed Phase II Data Management Plans Enhance collaborative portal Continue support and maintenance of collaborative portal Integrate all appropriate tools into the collaborative portal Interact with modelers to develop data archive policies – Metadata Entry/Editor survey Additional plans contingent upon additional funds – Develop robust data management system around existing THREDDS catalog that supports access to archived data via standards based tools – Develop services for metadata ingestion for modelers and metadata discovery for tools – Create Data Catalog

Expected Status of Testbed Data Management Tasks (12/31/2011) Collaborative Web Site Continued maintenance of the portal Integration of more tools into the portal Enhancement of the portal Data Archive Policy Initial discussions with modeling teams to develop data archive policies, to include: What data should be managed by the Testbed? What Formats need to be supported? What Metadata information needs to be collected? What Data Services are needed? What Data Standards should be supported? How long should the data be retained?

Phase II Testbed Data Management Deliverables – Enhanced collaborative portal – Implementation of requested features during Phase II – All appropriate tools integrated into the collaborative portal – Data archive policies Success at the end of Phase II – Collaborative portal as a centralized location for all Testbed resources – Continued use of portal as a reference of Testbed knowledge for transition to operational environment – Data policies that are agreed upon and basis for technology development or technology selection
