7 th Grade Language Arts

 Why does poetry exist?  To entertain  To Educate  To Emit Emotion  Poetic Terms  Types of Poetry

 Last week we looked at:  Acrostic  Haiku  Limerick  Epic Poem  Sonnet  Ode  Cinquain  Concrete (Shape)  Free Verse

An acrostic poem Can be about anything, Really! Of course some people like to Start each like as a sentence, Though I prefer weaving words into a Creation that is more freeform.

HAIKU: An old silent pond... A frog jumps into the pond, splash! Silence again.

Limerick There once was a pig who would try, To jump off the ground and to fly, The result was the same, 'Til he bought a plane, And left his friends waving goodbye!

 Bio Poem:  A poem that describes YOU.

*First Name* Adventurous, curious, earthy, and caring Daughter of Marge and Seth Lover of climbing, fishing, biking Who feels relaxed with friends, happy on holidays, and energetic when outdoors Who gives love, patience, and encouragement Who fears large exams, big black hairy spiders, and mice Who would like to see Alaska, the Black Sea,and India. Who lives in Chicago, Illinois *Last Name*

Karie Who is clumsy, encouraging and silly. Daughter of Susie Q and Bob. Lover of my furry babies, photography and all things chocolate. Who feels relaxed when the sands between her toes, happiest with family and thankful all year round. Who gives unconditional love, encouragement and knowledge. Who fears being alone, failure and heights. Who would like to see the world, a brighter future and my kids succeed. Who lives in a small town with her big city dreams. Frauenhoffer

 Today you are going to begin work on your own bio poem. You will use the template provided to write a “rough draft”. You will have a writer’s conference with me and I will provide you with construction paper to write your final draft tomorrow.
