Today we will… Identify different ways of obtaining information when carrying out an investigation. I can explain how to use these methods

Success Criteria I can list and explain the advantages of disadvantages of writing a letter or . I can demonstrate how to write a letter or to gather information.

Writing a Letter Written for a specific purpose. To get information or arrange a meeting. Good letters are specific; not general. Good letters = structured letters.

Evaluating: How Useful Letters & s are for Research Purposes? A letter or can be a very good method of gathering information for a project. You will now complete a sorting activity with a partner were you will categorise a number of statements under two headings; Advantages of letters & s and Disadvantage of letters & s. ADVANTAGES OF LETTERS & SDISADVANTAGES OF LETTERS & S

Letters & s are simple and cheap to create and send. Sometimes letters and s may not get a response. Both methods are good for getting answers to straightforward, direct questions. Waiting on the return of your letter can take time. Taking the time to write a letter or is personal and more likely to get a response. The respondent may not fully understand your questions and not give a clear response. s are a very quick method of communication. You might not get direct responses to your questions, rather just leaflets that are not useful. Writing personally to a person or organisation could result in the return of lots of useful information. Advantages and Disadvantages Letters and s

Writing a Letter or There may be some people in the class who are considering writing a letter to gather evidence for their investigation. You should now think about WHO you want to send it to and WHAT you want to ask. Your teacher will show you the STRUCTURE of a letter. TASK: Compose letter or for homework.
