Sicily is the biggest region and island situated in the South part of Italy. It is surrounded by 3 seas: the Mediterranean, Ionian and Terranian.

 Catania is located in the East part of Sicily and is the second biggest city on the island. Its population is aproximately 300,000.  The Sicilian word "Katane" means grater, flying knife, skinning place. This name was adopted by Greek colonists.

Catania was founded in the foot of the active volcano of Mount Etna in the VIII century BC by the Greek.

According to a legend, a magician called “Eliodoro” created an elephant figure from lava stone of Mount Etna and he brought it to life and used the elephant to scare people. Now it is the most important symbol of the city.

 Even Brad Pitt wears this kind of hat… ;) How about you?

 Italy is very famous for its wonderful fashion brands and nice food, so it is sure that in Catania you will find a lot of different and nice things you can buy. Apart from the fashion, food and cosmetics you can also find something that is typical for Sicily only… just like carts, puppets, coppola, etc.

Some shops are closed, people go home and have their lunch and maybe they have a nap or do whatever they want.

 Working with teachers and students was a great pleasure. I had a lot of fun and we are sure that we will be friends in the future! Elena Petrovska  This experience was very useful and nice!!!
