BASIC INFORMATION Bronte is a town and comune in the Province of Catania In 1520 Charles V united the twenty-four hamlets of the surrounding area, which formed the town of Bronte The town is situated approximately 10 miles west-northwest from Mount Etna Bronte's name derives from that of one of the First Cyclopes and it means "The Thunderer”  Mount Etna nearly destroyed the town three times, in 1651, in 1832, and finally in 1843

6 BASIC INFORMATION ● Etna is an active composite volcano on the east coast of Sicily ● It is the tallest active volcano on the European continent, currently 3,329 m high ● Etna covers an area of 1,190 km2 with a basal circumference of 140 km ● it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites ● Legend has it that the Cyclopes lived under Mount Etna, where they crafted weaponry for Zeus and other Gods

Church of Santa Maria- It has a façade completely built of black lava stone 2. Church of San Martino- It has a 14th-century bell tower 3. Church of San Nicola- the largest in the town, originally established in the 14th century but rebuilt in 1585 4. Castello Svevo- the only one remaining of the eight medieval towers 2 1 4 3

12 BASIC INFORMATION ● Maletto is a municipality in the Province of Catania  ● it is located about 140 kilometres east of Palermo and about 40 kilometres northwest of Catania ● As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 4,051 and an area of 40.9 square kilometres

14 BASIC INFORMATION It’s called the “green gold of Sicily”, and it’s not hard to wonder why. Pistachios are one of the key ingredients of the centuries-old long-lasting culinary tradition of Sicily Bronte, a lovely town situated on the flanks of Mount Etna within the Natural Park of the volcano, is the world-famous capital of pistachios, where an annual festival to celebrate the “green gold” takes place at the beginning of October. ● During these days, this fascinating town becomes the vibrant centre of the beautiful Park of Etna, and all the typical traditions of the Sicilian countryside are brought back to life Tasting sessions of pistachio-based recipes are scheduled during the weekend, together with live cooking, seminars, live shows and entertainment
