Do now recap! On a post it, jot down an evaluative comment about the creative skills used between this AS and A2 work.

Digital tech test What is meant by “Convergence”? What is meant by ‘digital zeitgeist’? What is a technophile and a technophobe? What is meant by proliferation? What does compression technology mean? What does ‘means of production’ mean? What is web 2.0? What does ‘user generated content’ mean?

Starter: What digital technology? Watch an example of an A2 film trailer from last year. List the technology that the students would have used to construct it on the large paper.

Lesson objective: to evaluate how our use of digital technology in the production of coursework has developed from AS to A2.

Your digital tech skills How technically skilled are you? Rate yourself out of 10 and explain why? What did we say about creativity and technical proficiency? Have your skills developed and can you write about them?

What do the exam board say? Level 4 (21-25 marks) There is a clear sense of progression and of how examples have been selected, and a range of articulate reflections on technical skills. There is a fluent evaluation of progress made over time. Candidates offer a broad range of specific, relevant and clear examples of digital technology in relation to creative decisions and outcomes. The use of media terminology and research, planning and production terms is excellent.

Forms of digital technology. What are the 3 mains forms of digital technology? Hardware: Still photography and DV cameras Mobile phones Computers. Software: Photoshop Publisher PowerPoint Premiere and After Effects Web 2.0: Search engines User generated and social media sites Review and fan sites. ….

How has digital technology benefited media makers ? It has transformed the way we produce media across the 4 stages of production: Researched Planned Created Viewed/Exhibited Students often make the mistake of focusing only on how digital technology can be used in the creation of a product.

Means of production….. Marx’s idea of the means of production being used by the dominant classes to keep the masses oppressed is increasingly becoming a redundant theory. Why? Because cheap, efficient technology is accessible to most of us. Therefore we are able to produce some work that could pass for professional, particularly print work. However do we think this is the same case for the A2 trailers?

Professionalism on a budget? How does your use of digital technology compare to production of real media texts? As year olds you are not expected to be able to replicate what professional media institutions can…..

Evaluating Media coursework What evaluative comments can you make about his use of digital technology across those 4 production areas? Remember….. Research Planning Creation of the product Exhibiting

‘I wasn't as comfortable when not using digital technology to plan and sketch out my ideas’. ‘Upon reflection my work could have been presented more effectively on the wikipage’ ‘I relied too heavily on the use of Wikipedia in my research which was unsatisfactory’. ‘I am reasonably proficient at using Photoshop effects on my magazine front cover’.

But what have I not done? We haven’t compared his A2 work to his AS work!

Evaluating your use of digital technology Paired Task: You are going to work in pairs to evaluate your AS and A2 coursework thus far. Open up your PowerPoints with your AS and A2 work on and spend a few minutes making notes in your booklets. You are then going to present your evaluations to the class. Attempt to: Compare your AS and A2 work. Use your booklets to prompt you. Do not type anything onto the PowerPoint. Refer to the 4 areas of coursework construction. Use evaluative terms and phrases sheet.

To Finish Answer the following question: ‘How has your use of digital technology in the coursework productions progressed from AS through to A2 Media Studies thus far?’ Peer Assess: Use the mark scheme to give your partner’s answer a mark out of 25. Highlight digital technology and evaluative comments. Give it a WWW and an EBI and sign it...

Homework(s)!!! 1 Answer the same set question in full -30 minutes to answer. 2Use mark scheme to assess exemplar essay on digital tech.

Remember AS music industry……. During the music industry topic many key terms and theories were discussed with regards to digital technology…lets have a quick test!

Non- digital media It’s easy to assume that in 2011 all research, construction and post-production work is produced solely with digital technology. However what non-digital technology did you use during AS and A2? Physical copies of magazines. Film and film trailers on TV/cinema/DVD? Pencil sketching and storyboarding. Any others?

Professionalism on a budget? How does your use of digital technology compare to production of real media texts? As year olds you are not expected to be able to replicate what professional media institutions can do…or has it? Marx’s idea of the means of production being used by the dominant classes to keep the masses oppressed is increasingly becoming a redundant theory. Why? Because cheap, efficient technology is accessible to most of us. Therefore we are able to produce some work that could pass for professional, particularly print work. However do we think this is the same case for the A2 trailers?

The haves and have not's One aspect of digital technology you might need to discuss and evaluate –without moaning – is the quality of technology you used. Versions of software. Quality of cameras (pixel ratios, SLR or compact, HD etc). Web 2.0- Make notes on question 5 and 6. How has your use of digital hardware technology developed between AS and A2 Media?
