Conscription in the Civil War By: Ariana Martinez

Civil War Conscription Act ● Passed March 3rd, 1863 ● First wartime draft in US history ● Registration of all males ages o Including aliens that intend to become citizens ● Confederacy passed conscription laws too

Exemptions ● Had to pay a $300 fine ● OR by finding a substitute draftee
