 North American Human Rights Initiative “A world without human trafficking”

NAHRI  Mission: The NAHRI is an advocacy group dedicated to raising public awareness for the fight against human trafficking occurring along the U.S.-Mexican border by conducting research and lobbying  We recognize one of the vital problems facing the world is the illegal trafficking of humans  This form of modern day slavery is particularly relevant around the U.S.-Mexican border region

Human Trafficking  According to a report released by the State Department, human trafficking in this region generally encompasses women transported for sexual exploitation and forced labor in the United States  Approximately 17,000 people are illegally trafficked into the United States from Mexico every year  The victims not only come from Mexico, but also several other countries in Central and South America

Goals  Raising public awareness of the problems facing the border region concerning human trafficking  Working with media outlets to report violations of human rights  Collaborating with organizations who have similar interests in fighting human trafficking ( U.S. Dept. of State, Mexican National Immigration Institute, etc…)

Financial Management  Budget  The NGO is not expected to create significant revenue and therefore collects income mainly from public and private donations  NAHRI will target a diverse donor base  Primarily the Mexican-American diaspora  Influential Mexican-Americans  Private donors

Budget: 1 st Year  1 st year budget will amount to $200,000  $10,000 will be available for instant expenses (administration, furniture, etc)  Additional $20,000 will cover administrative expenses  Staff will consist of 8 full-time position and 2 part-time positions  8 full-time employees receives $ 20,000 compensation each  2 part-time employees receive $5,000 compensation each  Total salaries = $170,000

Budget: 2 nd Year  2 nd year budget amounts to $190,000  This takes “start-up” advantage into account  It is easier to attract one-time funds at the creation of the NGO  Reduction of $10,000 compensates for this and will not negatively effect operations

Marketing  Services offered  Educating the general public, both in the United States and Mexico, on the regional, national and international scope of trafficking, forced labor, and sexual exploitation  Conducting research pertaining to trafficking including the documentation of specific cases, regional public policy and the psychosocial implications of trafficking  Advocating for services to help victims reintegrate into society  Collaboration with other organizations also working to eradicate human trafficking

Marketing  Primary stakeholders: trafficking victims  Secondary stakeholders: board, donors, policy makers  Location: North America (U.S.-Mexico border region)  Headquarters: Tucson, Arizona

Marketing  Promotion of services  Publications/reports distributed online (  Annual conferences in Washington D.C. and Mexico City  Documentaries based on true stores  Flyer, poster and postcard distribution  Promotion Strategy  Raise awareness within U.S.-Mexico community/governments
