Unit 3 Geography- Continent Power Point Today you are going to learn what continents are and where to find them on a map or a globe. Famous "Blue Marble" photograph of Earth, taken from Apollo 17

You can see our continents on a map or a globe. A globe is a three-dimensional scale model of Earth. The word "globe" comes from the Latin word globus, meaning round mass or sphere.

A map is… a drawing or other representation, usually on a flat surface, of all or part of the earth's surface, ordinarily showing countries, bodies of water, cities, mountains, etc.

What is a continent? A continent is one of several large landmasses on Earth.

What are landmasses? Large areas of land.

What is a land mass? Land mass refers to the total area of a country or geographical region (which may include discontinuous pieces of land such as islands).
