Find the definitions in the Glossary, Index, or pages in the book. Ceramics Kiln Greenware Bisqueware Glazeware- Bisqueware that has been glazed and then fired. Coil- Clay rolled into a “snake” as thick as a pencil.

Plastic 10. Leatherhard 11. Bone dry- Completely dry; without any trace of moisture; light red in color, ready to be fired in the kiln. 12. Score- To scratch or crosshatch with a sharp implement when connecting clay parts (p. 286-287) 13. Slip

ADDING CLAY!!! SCORE- like tic-tac-toe, crosshatching the two spots you want to connect SLIP- add ONE finger of water over the score marks SMOOTH- put the two pieces together and smooth around the two attached parts, making them look like they are one.

DRYING STAGES 1. PLASTIC- clay is soft and workable, has a lot of moisture, feels wet 2. LEATHERHARD- clay is medium red in color, is stiff but still workable 3. BONE-DRY- clay is red in color, hard, and ready to be fired in kiln
