 Georgia O'Keeffe likes to paint flowers.  I can recognize the flower.  It has dark values at the bottom and lighter values at the top.  It has organic shapes and some irregular patterns in the petals  Oils were used. Description

 The focal point is the center of the flower because it’s in the center of the painting. It is different from everything on the picture because of its darkness.  The painting is symmetrically balanced and creates a sad mood.  O’Keeffe is known for making flowers bigger than what they really are. It’s unusual because sometimes she paints it to the point where it doesn’t even look the a flower, but this one does.  The petals make a pattern so that you can tell that they are petals.  My eyes go up from the center because of the way the petals are painted on the canvas. Analysis

 The darkness at the bottoms helps me understand the title of the artwork.  I think that Georgia wanted to give a sad feeling because the painting is really dark and gloomy.  The work reminds me of a lot of things that I've gone through.  Sometimes things are just really sad and this painting relates to all of those say things. Interpretation

 I feel that the whole painting was a success. I knew what the painting was without even looking at the title. O’Keeffe wanted to draw a flower and it looks like a flower.  Things you use to critique artwork: balance, unity, colors, mood, patterns  I think that all of Georgia O’Keeffe’s art work is unique because there aren't any artists that do what she does.  I think that the painting needs more balance in color. It kind of goes from dark to light so quickly. There is no blend in the middle. Judgment
