So What is the Purpose??? o“A teen with a new driver’s license needs time and guidance to gain driving experience and skills in reduced-risk settings.” With the GDL System… oThe introduction to driving privileges is gradual, so that new drivers can obtain sufficient instruction and driving experience.

Is it Really Working??? oAccording to the U.S. Department of Transportation:  In 2004, 14% of all drivers involved in fatal crashes were between the ages of 15 and 20. (3,620)  HOWEVER, this group represents only 6.6% of the driving population.  The #1 cause of death for year olds is related to driving collisions.

Is it Really Working???  Most crashes caused by teens occur between the hours of 10:00 pm and midnight.  Although young drivers do only 20% of their driving at night, 50% of their fatalities occur at night. - National Transportation Safety Board - Insurance Information Institute

Is it Really Working??? o“A study released in July 2006 found that GDL programs can reduce the incidence of fatal crashes for 16-year old drivers by an average of 11%.” o“Every evaluation of a state’s GDL system has identified crash reductions, some as high as 60%.”
