FM GLOBAL MARKETING/NETWORKING

Outline Brief FM Global Insight Approval Highlight Applications Interesting Information

FM Global “We are a leading commercial insurance company that forms long-term partnerships with our clients to support risk management objectives through a unique combination of engineering, underwriting and claims. We work to ensure business continuity and safeguard our clients' properties with seamless, worldwide coverage and property loss prevention engineering solutions.”

FM Global WHAT: “Leading COMMERCIAL insurance company” –Fortune 500 Companies –Had 175 th Anniversary ROLE: “SUPPORT risk management” HOW: “combination of ENGINEERING, underwriting, and claims” GOAL: “property loss PREVENTION engineering solutions”

FM Global Translation to our world: –FM Global is a large insurance company for many of our customers (or prospective). –FM Global charges its customers insurance rates based on various risk factors. –When one of these risk factors can be brought down, the rate can be brought down (or they may raise rates if the risk factors are not addressed). –Enter TraceTek…..

FM Approval Fire Protection Equipment Approval Standards Class Number – 7745 Approval Guide Listing: – Category: Fire Protection – Flammable Liquid Equipment – Diesel Leak Detection Approval Granted: June 7, 2010

FM Approval “TraceTek Diesel Leak Detection System. System consists of TTDM- 128 or TTDM V Leak Detection Master Module and TT-FFS- a-b-c (a=100 or 250; b=MC or L; c=1, 3, 10) Series Fast Detection Probe. Optional TTSIM-x-y (x=1A or 2; y=12VDC, 24VDC, 24, 120, or 230) Sensor Interface Module for network of up to 128 addressable points. Surge suppression required on detection circuits for installations that may be exposed to surge transients. TT5000 Sensing Cable can be used to supplement system but does not meet the required 30 second maximum detection time. TTDM- 128 and TTSIM suitable for operation in ambient temperatures from 32 deg to 122 deg F (o to 50 deg C), TT-FFS probe suitable for operations in ambient temperatures from -40 deg to 185 deg F (-40 to 85 deg C), TT5000 cable suitable for operation in ambient temperatures from -4 deg to 122 deg F (-20 to 50 deg C). TTDM- 128 rated Type 12, IP54.”

FM Approval Primary Sensing Component –TT-FFS: Meets 30 second reaction time requirement. Substitute Sensing Component –TT5000: Can be used as a supplement where a FFS can not be applied, but does not meet the 30 second maximum detection time.

Applications Piping Generators Day Tanks Boilers Indoor Fuel “weak spots” Our Experiences

Applications Fuel Piping –Primarily focused on where piping has threaded fittings and is not backwelded –Reason: Backwelded fittings create a secondary type containment for that fitting that also strengthens the pipe at these areas

Applications Generators –Assuming the piping is backwelded, our focus then points to where fuel piping comes down and enters the filter housing These fittings will not be backwelded due to maintenance and repair –Not necessarily all around the generator –Focus: If the threaded fitting breaks, the pumps will continue to flow fuel and there is no type of detection to alarm anyone –Note: FM Global is going to push to put solenoid valves in, controlled by TraceTek electronics, to shut down the flow in the event of a leak In life support situations, facility management team will not let this happen, so they will have to rely getting a timely signal from TraceTek

Applications Day Tanks –Usually double walled applied with internal leak detection FM still wants to cover these as the internal leak detection may not be approved by them Also, many of these tanks are large, and it is good to have another type of coverage to detect a leak early –Focus: Wrapping the tanks with TT5000 is a good solution Also may want to add a FFS where the pipe enters the tank due to the non-backwelded threads in these areas as previously discussed

Applications Boilers –Many different boilers, so applications vary –Similar application to the generators –Focused on where the fuel piping comes into the boilers Hoses and threaded fittings are potential leak points

Applications Other “weak spots” –There may be other areas that your FM field engineer wants focus –Each FM engineer may want something slightly different –Other applications may dictate leak detection such as; trenched piping, around drains, etc.

Applications/Solutions TT-FFS –In areas where the pipe is threaded and not backwelded coming into the mechanical equipment –FFS presents the best solution for both FM Global and the customer Meets 30 second reaction time requirement If designed properly, will address the need to get someone at the site of an event quickly to offset the inability to use solenoid valves for shutoff in critical life support facilities Better for the customer as it is reusable if they get fuel in the area during normal maintenance

Applications/Solutions Solutions –Solution 1: Build a “dyke” around the critical area with uni-strut or angle iron and caulk the back side of the dyke, mounting the FFS inside the containment

Applications/Solutions

Solutions –Solution 2: A combination of FFS and TT5000 is often best, when maintenance operations will not create a “dirty” area

Applications/Solutions

Solutions –Solution 3: When FFS is not applicable, use TT5000
