THE CRITTER BARN

The KEY to having an educational farm is engaging your visitors and students in the care of the animals.

RABBITSChildren often shy away when they learn rabbits have sharp toenails. A simple carpet square protects them. It’s “Stainmaster” so it can be hosed off when needed. We use 2’x4’x30” exploring tables to display rabbits for petting or holding.

more RABBITSGrasping the scruff of the supporting the rabbit on the rump, flip it to its back, release tightness on your grip, use extra hand to touch feet, ears, stomach, until rabbit is relaxed. Repeat daily till cooperative.

more RABBITS“Boxing” rabbits nurtures a calm demeanor and submissive nature.4-H uses this technique in showmanship. Square the rabbit on a carpet and correct it until it stays absolutely still for seconds.

more RABBITS The head is secure between your arm and body, with slight pressure. Feeling safe, the rabbit is still and the holder can relax the hand on the scruff of the neck, and actually support the rabbit with the left arm alone.

more RABBITS Critter Crew volunteers feed the rabbits six days a week. Rabbits are sold for pets and meat production.

Thank you
