Chapter 13: Disorders of Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders New diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders Changes to categorization of learning disorders Number of required criteria for diagnosis of ADHD in adults changed Further modifications to diagnosis of Intellectual Disability

Autism Spectrum Disorders 4 diagnoses, not 3, combined in this new diagnosis Asperger’s Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder NOS, and Autistic Disorder no longer distinct diagnoses Specifiers include with or without accompanying intellectual impairment, language impairment, or catatonia

Specific Learning Disorders Dyscalculia and Dyslexia no longer distinct diagnoses Specifiers include impairments in reading, written expression and mathematics Duration criterion of 6 months required for diagnosis

ADHD Diagnosis in those over 17 requires 5 signs of inattention or 5 signs of hyperactivity/impulsivity, rather than 4.

Intellectual Disability DSM-5 informed by American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) guidelines. Diagnostic criteria clarified Emphasis on strengths and adaptations Severity is assessed in three domains: conceptual social practical
