2 Mental Retardation Mental retardation is signified by significantly subaverage functioning (below 70) and concurrent deficits in adaptive functioning which occurs before age 18. –Severity Levels Mild Mental Retardation (50-55 to 70) Moderate Mental Retardation (35-40 to 50-55) Severe Mental Retardation (20-25 to 35- 40) Profound Mental Retardation (below 20 or 25)

3 Motor Skills Disorder Developmental Coordination Disorder –Motor coordination substantially below that expected given the person’s chronological age and measured intelligence. –Disturbance interferes with academic achievement or activities of daily living. –Not due to general medical condition –If MR present, motor difficulties are below expected

7 Attention-Deficit and Disruptive Behavior Disorders Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Conduct Disorder Oppositional Defiant Disorder Disruptive Behavior Disorder NOS

8 Attention-Deficit and Disruptive Behavior Disorders Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder –AD-HD, Combined Type –AD-HD, Predominantly Inattentive Type –AD-HD, Predominantly Hyperactive- Impulse Type Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder NOS

9 Oppositional Defiant Disorder A pattern of negativistic, hostile, and defiant behavior lasting at least 6 months Causes clinically significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational function Do not occur exclusively during the course of a Psychotic or Mood Disorder Criteria not met for Conduct Disorder
