Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Assignments: Turned inThank You!

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Head & Shoulder Shot: Assignment feedback Layout Guides: These 2 images were given as layout guides. The top one is the ‘optional’ ID shot layout. It was given to those with zoom lenses incapable of cropping tighter. The bottom one is the tight head & should layout. It clearly shows the face turning away from the camera into the frame. The background is also divided using the 1/3 rule with plenty of head clearance space…

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. Layout Comparison: Reframed for ‘head & shoulder’

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. Just OK Strong and Other Stories:

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. Strong Use of Diagonals:

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. Good Use of Color:

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. Not Good: Multiple light sources

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. Not Good: Bad light direction – mostly too high or too much to the side…

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I. High Wow Factor:

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Special Problems: Cropped: Extremely grainy and very poor color Extreme back light File size still not right Extreme side direction light Framed way too close

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Cropped: Extremely poor image quality Good Use of Feeling: Make it memorable

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Cropped: Extremely poor image quality Story Idea: Very Close Not so closeNeed Story

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Cropped: Extremely poor image quality Tight Layout: spEnv Assignment

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Cropped: Extremely poor image quality Tight Layout: spEnv Assignment

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Think Re-shoot: Do not choose locations that are not reproducible. Trying to reproduce lighting conditions is hard enough. Trying to get the same location to look the same way again is a much more challenging. Sarah R’s shot has a high WOW factor. Although it does not satisfy assignment requirements. It’s especially bad that the image size is way too small. And reproducing that background might turn out to be a nightmare for her. Remember my mantra about keeping things simple. Minimize your need to interact with mother nature… Head & Shoulder Shot: Assignment feedback

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Doing Okay: Whether Close or Need a Story Thanks for coming to class and doing so on-time. I feel confident that I can help all of you to reach the end of the quarter with a good to strong final project images! Some of you have been particularly lucky or unlucky. In both cases, pay close attention to what made it work or not work. Learn to get and apply more control to your image. Learn to make your own good luck by paying attention to the details… Above all, try to learn from the cumulated efforts of all the class members. talk Head & Shoulder Shot: Assignment feedback

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Learn from Each Other: Look at the successful assignment images and take ownership. Talk to the maker of that image, find out what they were thinking. If it was due to luck, join with them to figure out what makes it work… Head & Shoulder Shot: Assignment feedback

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Relaxing of Rules: Permission required Toy has a particularly unsuited tool for this class. His DSLR, which I think of as a truck, is further limited by a lens limited to only the telephoto range. That makes is digital equivalent to an 18 wheeler truck… I am team him with … Head & Shoulder Shot: Assignment feedback
