Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission  Voluntary association of governmental and non-governmental organizations in the Dayton metropolitan region in southwest Ohio  Regional Planning Commission and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) performing transportation, land use and environmental planning

Background Promoting Sustainable Growth for the Dayton Region  We live our lives in a regional way and operate as a region  Region is an economic unit to compete in a global marketplace  Planning decisions in one community impacts surrounding communities and the region as a whole  Issues associated with planning decisions such as traffic congestion and air quality reach beyond local boundaries to cover the entire region

In the past, Dayton Region experienced:  Population decline  Increasing suburbanization with urban population density decline  Aging of population and loss of manufacturing-based economy In the future, Dayton Region is expected to see:  Continued suburbanization and urban population density decline  Low population and job growth  Thinning tax base impacting the region to remain sustainable financially, politically, and environmentally

How can we make our region more vibrant place? How can we make our region more prosperous? How can we make our region with a better quality of life? Hmmm.. What should we do?

Our citizens say…  Improve planning of future developments and transportation to attract economic development, but focus growth to preserve green space and minimize the need for increased auto travel (Transportation Visioning)  Better planning and incentives to preserve natural resources; and policies that promote an integrated, fiscally-responsible and balanced approach to development (Transportation Visioning)  77.6% of the general public support comprehensive regional land use planning (Study of Regional Cooperative Strategies )

Introducing Going Places – An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region

Guiding Principles Public Outreach and Engagement Partnership with Other Non-Government Organizations Leadership Support Partnership with Local Governments

Developing a Shared Vision 2040 Regional Growth Framework will:  Identify areas that are preferred and appropriate for future development, redevelopment, or preservation  Be a roadmap for the region to better achieve consistency between future transportation infrastructure investment and land development and enhance environmental quality  Serve as a guideline and resource for the future land use policy and/or plan development efforts of communities in the Region
