Student Expectations Be positive Be respectful Be a learner Students are expected to follow these rules everyday and if they are having a hard time with this expect us to contact you to work on a plan together to help the student meet these expectations. Clip chart Monthly homework lunches

Agendas Used to copy assignments Communication between school and home They are used as passes Please check each day Feel free to write notes to us – we will see them at the end of the day Missing assignments noted daily

Homework Review of what has been taught during the day - If your child is spending more than 50 minutes nightly(in addition to 15 minutes of reading)on homework please let us know. Assignments passed in late will be graded as follows: students lose ten points if assignments are one day late, twenty points on the second day, thirty points on the third day, fifty points on the fourth day. After five days, the score will be a zero.

Binder Expectations Keep an updated table of contents. Papers in the table of contents go in that section of the binder in the order specified. Only clean it out when the homework hotline directs you to. There is one section for each subject.

When your child is absent… - contact Attendance secretary - any requests for homework should be made through the guidance office - he/she has one day for everyday absent to make up work before it starts being counted as late - “We missed you” packets - The goal is for students to be responsible to follow up on their work when they are absent.

Schedule - Students are allowed off buses at 7:10. - First bell rings at 7:20. - Second bell rings at 7:30. If students are not in homeroom by 7:30 they will be considered tardy. - After 7:35, students must get a pass from the main office. - Daily schedule…

Lunch / Recess - many choices - menus are online - Students will be given the opportunity to have recess daily. They must have sneakers to play in the gym.

Math Math in Focus – Skills and concepts taught in depth to allow for mastery – Emphasis on problem solving – Use of concrete thinking to visual representation to abstract use of concept. This year… – Whole number estimating and operations – Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of fractions and decimals – Ratios and Percents – Geometry – area, volume, 2-D and 3-D figures

Language Arts Our language arts program will include self- selected reading materials, reading and writing workshops, journal writing, teacher conferences, computerized tests, small and large group instruction, grammar, editing, spelling and vocabulary skills. DGR/DGW – Journeys is aligned with common core Journals due every other Wednesday; reading logs due Friday, grammar, spelling and vocab on Day 6 schedule

Social Studies Geography, the Early Americans, Explorers, Colonies, Revolutionary War, Government, Westward Expansion, and the Industrial Revolution Weekly Geography due every other Wednesday Textbook and atlas; worksheets

Language Arts/Social Studies Grading: – Homework/classwork 20% – Quizzes 35% – Tests 45%
