How do I? Request an Interlibrary Loan using the OCLC First Search Database?

Find library website ► Go to the library website at or go to ► Open the academics tab and click on the library link ► Click on the “library databases” link and locate the OCLC First Search Database.

WHEN TO USE OCLC FIRST SEARCH You would use the OCLC First Search for an Interlibrary Loan request ONLY IF THE TITLE IS NOT LISTED IN THE KANSAS LIBRARY CATALOG (KLC) ► If the title is listed in KLC then you must use KLC to place your request ► If you feel there is an exception, please check with a librarian.

If a title is owned by the Myers Library it cannot be Interlibrary Loaned, unless it is missing from the library. If we own the title it will be listed in OCLC with a green tag next to it that says “Ottawa University”.

To search the catalog put your keyword, subject or title search in the search for box. I have chosen a keyword search for book on a specific subject, but you could change your search box to subject, title or the necessary search.

I have chosen the second book on the list and would like to Interlibrary Loan it from another library. Click on the title of the book to find more information about it.

Once the title record is open, click on the third blue link “Borrow this item from another library.

To order this Interlibrary Loan, fill out all the fields that have an asterisk next to them. Be sure to include your telephone number and address. Include any questions or special requests in the comments box.

See below and example of a completed Interlibrary Loan request. Once you have completed your request click the “Submit” button. You can clear the request if you have made an error or click “cancel” to cancel it.

Periodical article requests ► If you want an interlibrary loan article, make sure you check our Ebsco Periodical A to Z Search on the library website at &sid= &TabID=2 to see if the library provides full-text access to the periodical. If it does then you cannot place the Interlibrary Loan request &sid= &TabID=2 &sid= &TabID=2

A student wants an article that can be found in the “Harvard Theological Review”. If the put the periodical title in the Periodical A to Z they can check the library holdings against that title for full-text access.

According to the Periodical A to Z there are several full-text options available to the student from 1992 to the present. If they needed a 1991 article, since there is no access to the full-text before 1992, the student can then go ahead and request an Interlibrary Loan.
