1 Finding Full-text Articles in Periodicals in the Library By Barbara J. Hampton, J.D., M.L.S. Reference Librarian Ryan-Matura Library, Sacred Heart U.

2 When you know the specific journal or article that you want... Citations found in Database abstract Bibliography in book or article Course Syllabus Google or Google Scholar Web site Find Full-Text Use “Journal Title” search in Library Catalogue Use “Journals by Title” search Use links provided in “Google Scholar”

3 The library has millions of journal articles available Varieties of Full-Text Electronic Journals available through library subscription databases, on campus and remotely. Paper – print: available in library only. Microfilm – print: available in library only. Abstracts May be available in full-text in another database. Full-text can be requested via Interlibary Loan. Full-text may be available at another area library.

4 In Library Catalog, select “Journal Title” from the drop- down menu, then enter title in search box and click SEARCH

5 Some “Journal Title” searches will return multiple entries. Click on the best match.

6 Journals which the library has in both electronic and print formats will have two catalogue entries.

7 The catalogue record for electronic editions of a journal provides links to the appropriate databases [check coverage dates]

8 In Journals by Title tab, enter journal Title begins with in search box and click Search.

9 The catalogue record for the print edition shows coverage dates for paper and microfilm copies.

10 Some “Journal Title” searches will return multiple entries. Scroll to the best match.

11 Click on database name to link to electronic journal [check coverage dates]. Click on Sacred Heart University Print Holdings to see paper & microfilm copies available in library.

12 The catalogue record for the print edition shows coverage dates for paper and microfilm copies.

13 Use “Get This Item” links provided in Google Scholar for some articles
