Name of Followers Followers of Christianity are called Christians.

Quick History Christians are the followers of a Jew named Jesus of Nazareth. They base their religion and their life on his teachings. Many believe Jesus was the son of God. Jesus traveled around teaching about a new covenant between God and the Jews. Those who followed his teachings broke away from the Jews. When he was 33 he was sentenced to death by hanging on the cross because he was seen as a political threat. After three days Jesus was resurrected.

Important People Abraham: A very important figure. He is considered a prophet of God. Jesus Christ: Christians base their religion on the life and teachings of him. Pastors, ministers or priest: Christian leaders depending on the group. Are responsible for leading worship.

Beliefs about God Christians believe in one God. Most Christians belief in the Trinity, which is the idea that God has three parts: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The goal of Christianity is to achieve salvation or eternal life with God.

Holy Days Christmas: Celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Easter: Celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Holy Places Holy buildings called churches.

Important Traditions Participate in sacraments, or sacred ceremonies. Baptism: Introduction to Christianity Communion: Sharing of a sacred meal.
