 Standard #8: Instructional Strategies The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop a deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.  Name of Artifact: Contemporary Issues Project  Date: 4/14/15  Course: EDUC 101: Introduction to teaching

 Description: This presentation displays the issue of safety that many schools across the country are facing. Some of the safety concerns are general safety, emergency preparedness, transportation and playground safety.  Rationale: To document my understanding of InTASC Standard 8, Instructional Strategies, I chose to include my Contemporary Issues in Education project. This standard is important because teachers need to be able to teach using a variety of methods. This will help me teach a concept using a visual method.

 General Safety  Emergency preparedness  Transportation Safety  Playground safety

 Locked doors  In school transition procedures  Volunteer procedures

 Tornado Drills  Fire Drills  Intruder Drills (Shah, 2013) (Elliott, 2013)

 School Bus Safety (Durick, 2010)  Drop-off/ Pick-up Safety  Walker safety

 Supervision  Equipment safety  Adult: child ratio

 "This job of keeping our children safe, and teaching them well, is something we can only do together, with the help of friends and neighbors, the help of a community, and the help of a nation." — President Barack Obama, December 16, 2012
