“Why I Want To Teach…” -Ernisha McCarter

Name of Artifact: Why I want to teach… Date: March 5, 2014 Course: EDUC 101 INTASC Professional Responsibility Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner Brief Description: For this assignment, I thought about why I really wanted to teach and put it in a PowerPoint to present to my classmates. Rationale: To document my understand of Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice I study students and came up with a idea about how I want to better the profession of teaching and how I will contribute to it.

Why I want to be a teacher? I want to be a teacher because I feel like this society is lacking teachers who really have a passion for teaching. I think out of all my years in school I might have had two teacher who I felt like really cared. Teacher should be someone you look up to and be able to guide you to the next level, that's what I want to do. I just want to be the teacher that I wish I had. Students need someone who really want to see them do good, not someone who is there for the money. It makes me happy to see other people achieve, it makes me even more happy to know that I helped them.

Effective Teacher Traits… Effective teacher traits that I possess: Being caring Passionate Patience Committed “Teaching shapes education and therefore shapes the future of the United States…”

Educational Philosophy I want to be the teacher that everyone loves. I want to make a difference in kids lives. I want to be more than a teacher, I want to be a mentor. I want to be a teacher that can teach students in different ways depending on their learning style. I will teach more than what is required, I want everyone to leave my class with at least one life skill that they will carry with them forever.

Student Characteristics… I want to teach students that are: Eager to learn Want to do good Have dreams and goals & Determined

Community Characteristics I want to teach in a middle/low class community. I think those are the kids that NEED teachers who really are passionate about teaching. Middle/low class families face many problems on a daily basis, problems that more likely will effect their children. I grew up in one of these communities. I know how hard it can be to focus on school when you have so much going on at home. I have been in there shoes and I want them to be able to see that I got through it and they can too!

Contributions to the Profession I will contribute to the profession of teaching because I am very passionate about teachers. I’m not going in it blindfolded I know their will be some good and bad days. This is what I want to do and I want to be the best at it. Teachers that are really passionate in what they do is really scarce in this society, therefore it needs someone like me. I will teach not only the curriculum but life lessons. I will go above and beyond to make sure every child I teach leaves my class with more than what they came with.
