Purpose of the BNHS Cheer Team Promote school spirit and sportsmanship Serve as a performing group representing the high school throughout the community, state and nation. Development of individual skills and performances Development of responsibility and self-respect that encourage honest effort in striving for excellence. Develop character, teamwork and pride in quality performance and physical fitness by emphasizing the maintenance of high standards.

Team Selection… Requirements for tryouts. A candidate: 1.Must not have been academically ineligible for any two or more grading periods during the application school year 2.Must have no DAEP or JJAEP school placement during the current school year 3.Tumbling must be signed off prior to tryouts.

Tryout… Candidates must complete the application online at NO LATER than 4:00pm next Thursday, February 27, 2013 All physicals must be up to date prior to the first practice!

Tryouts… DVD w/ cheer dance & cheer handed out at parent meeting Tryout Week –March 3-6 from 5:30-7:00 in the BNHS Dance Gym –Thursday, March 6 (Mock Tryouts) –Friday, March 7: Tryouts JV/V 5:00pm - Freshmen 6:00-? (Closed tryouts-bring snacks, water, etc.) –All candidates must stay until tryouts are complete in the case of call backs. Judging criteria for cheer team tryouts will be as follows: –Tumbling (5pts) –Spirit & Enthusiasm (5pts) –Motion Technique (5pts) –Voice & Projection (5pts) –Jumps (5 pts) –Overall Impression (5pts) All 3 NCA judges scores will be compiled to equal a score up to 90 pts. Top 18 Varsity, Next 18 JV, Top 18 Freshmen Seniors can be on Junior Varsity

What to wear… Tryouts: –White shirt –Black shorts –Cheer shoes (if possible) –Hair – pull back out of face in pony tail –No jewelry! –No Cheer ID

Once you make the team… Mandatory “Made-It” Meeting Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00 in the Lecture Hall Camp/Shoes Payment Due-$ Remaining balance will be due Thursday, May 1 This year we will only accept cash or check and the balance will have to be paid in full prior to attire/uniforms being passed out. Fittings: April 4 (4:00-6:00pm) Lecture Hall LOCK-IN: TBD

Mandatory Summer Camp… NCA Location: SMU in Dallas,TX June Big Yellow Bus Tumbling, Stunting, Dancing, Cheering Camp Gifts/Big Sis-Little Sis ELECTRONICS FREE

Summer Activities cont… Back to School Dates: August 1 st Officer/Captain Workdays August 4 th -squad members report back Middle School Camp (TBD) Meet the Bobcat (TBD) Fish Camp TCR Clinic A look at the school year…. Cheer is scheduled during 1 st period. Practice begins at 7:30 am.

Projected Costs (ALL COSTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE) **Prices are approximate and may vary by squad. Camp $330 (includes transportation) Rookie Squad Member: $700-$750 Veteran Squad Member: $400-$450 There will be various other expenses such as t-shirts, banquet, events, etc. throughout the year. If the team travels to competition, these expenses will also be the student’s responsibility.
