1 Summit Trail Cheer and Dance Tryouts

2 Spirit Squads Spirit squads are positive leaders in the school.
Develop good sportsmanship among the student body. Promote student body involvement in athletics.

3 Dance Tryout Information
Clinics: Tuesday, March 5th through Thursday, March 7th from 3:30-5:00pm in the main gym. **Make sure to wear tennis shoes/jazz shoes and dance shorts/gym shorts and a tank top or t-shirt. Tryouts: Friday, March 8th starting at 3:30 pm. *All tryouts and clinics are closed to family and friends. Please have rides here on time.

4 Cheer Tryout Information
Clinics: Tuesday, March 19th – Thursday, March 21st from 3:30-5:00pm **Make sure to wear tennis shoes and athletic/gym clothes. ** Tryout material will be made available online at clinics  Tryouts: Friday, March 22nd starting at 4:00 pm. *All tryouts and clinics are closed to family and friends. Please have rides here on time.

5 Tryout Information WHAT TO WEAR TO DANCE TRYOUTS:
Black shorts and a white t-shirt Tennis shoes/Jazz shoes/Cheer shoes Hair must be in a ponytail pulled away from the face No jewelry of any kind! WHAT TO WEAR TO CHEER TRYOUTS: Black shorts and a white t-shirt Athletic or cheer shoes Hair must be in a ponytail! (Bow is optional.) No jewelry of any kind! DETAILS: Candidates will audition in groups of three. Candidates will know their group number prior to your audition.

6 Tryout Information AUDITION PROCESS: If trying out for Dance
Enter the gym with your hands behind your back and go to your designated spot You will be asked to perform a short dance, and a turn/leap/kick sequence If trying out for Cheer Spirit or tumble in to your designated spot You will be asked to perform a dance, cheer, chant, a toe touch, and jump of choice. Results will be posted on the Summit Trail website no later than 7:00pm.

7 Dance Team Dance Team Expectations
There are rules, expectations and expenses involved with the dance team. Dancers are expected to: Occasionally come to before/after/Saturday practices or meetings. Dress for class and participate every day. Attend all practices and summer camp. Attend all performances.

8 Dance Team Dance Team Guidelines Membership requirements:
Each girl is required to have a physical BEFORE attendance at summer camp. Physicals must be completed after May 1, 2019. The Dance Team is conducted as a class. Each girl must be enrolled in the class. The class will meet every day all year long. It is a Physical Education credit. Dance Team members are allowed to be involved in other authorized school activities, but you need to discuss your activities with the coach if they conflict with dance team practices/games. Studio dance is strongly encouraged but not required.

9 Dance Team Academics: If a member has a current grade of a D, she will be benched from the next performance, and all future performances, until the grade is raised to at least a C. The member may NOT be present at the performance and should be receiving out of class help. If a member does not bring up her grades after a nine-week period, there will be an administrative review to determine if the member should remain enrolled in the class and on the team.

10 Dance Team Classroom Grades/Points:
Dance teams members receive a weekly grade of 10 points. Five points for being dressed out in correct uniform each day. Five points for good effort and attitude each day.

11 Dance Team **Expenses involved in Dance Team vary. Estimates of these expenses include: Camp~$200 Dance Attire ~ $150 Shirts and Jackets ~ $75 Miscellaneous/Food ~ $90 Approximate Cost--$515- Cost could change

12 Dance Team **Attendance is required at all team events.
Camp--July at Above The Barre Studio Old Settler’s Parade—Early September Performances at various home games—September through February Pep Assemblies—Throughout the year Fundraisers—Throughout the year Competition—January or February Tryouts—March Dance Team Spring Show—April or May

13 Cheerleading Cheerleading Expectations
There are rules, expectations, and expenses involved with cheerleading. Cheerleaders are expected to: Attend all athletic events to which you are assigned. This may include both 7th and 8th grade games. The majority of the games are after school, but some are at a later time in the evening. Having a ride to and from school is a necessity. Occasionally come to school on Saturdays, weekday evenings, or before school for practice or meetings. These dates will be communicated ahead of time. Dress for class and participate every day. Attend summer practices and camp. Cheerleaders will participate and help with fundraisers throughout the year.

14 Cheerleading Membership requirements:
All cheerleaders must have a current physical (after May 1st of the current year and before camp) on record with the school nurse. KSHAA rules state, no jewelry may be worn by cheerleaders at practices, games, or camp. Cheerleaders are allowed to be involved in other authorized school activities, but you need to discuss your activities with a coach if they conflict with cheer.

15 Cheerleading Daily Points:
Cheerleaders receive a daily grade (4 pts) for participating, and dressing out in class Game Points: Cheerleaders receive a grade (5 pts) for participating, uniform, attitude, knowledge of cheers, and attentiveness during games. Expectations No jewelry, correct clothing and shoes, and hair appropriately pulled up/or off face and shoulders, on time, good attitude, and participates. Appropriate nail color (clear or French) and appropriate length (short)

16 Cheerleading Expenses
**Expenses involved in cheerleading vary. Estimates of these expenses include: Summer Camp~$300 Camp clothes~$65 Shoes~$70 Uniform accessories~$65 Bows~$45 Approximate Cost--$560

17 Cheerleading **Attendance is required at all squad events.

18 Judging Separate forms for cheer and dance included in packets
80/10/10 *80% tryout score, 10% grades, 10% teacher recommendations =total score

20 Applications Due date: February 22, 2019.
No applications will be accepted after the above date.
