Heavy consumption of alcohol in a short time period Males- 5 or more drinks in a setting Females- 4 or more drinks in a setting Why is it a problem? Hangover Poor mental health- Memory lapses, mood disturbances, sleeping problems Impaired judgement Alcohol poisoning ( pass out, could choke to death on your own vomit) Poor physical health- overweight, high blood pressure Alcoholism

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a serious health problem that can cause a combination of physical and mental defects that are a result of a woman drinking alcohol while she is pregnant.

When a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, the chemicals in the alcohol pass through the placenta so that the baby absorbs the SAME amount of alcohol its mother does. However, with a developing fetus, the results can cause lifelong problems and even death

This can lead to problems with memory, learning, and coordination. It can also lead to long-term behavioral problems both at home and in school.

FAS is the leading cause of MENTAL RETARDATION in children !

*FAS can also lead to the development of abnormal joints and limbs. *Children and adults with FAS suffer problems with growth. They are often shorter and underweight *FAS can also cause heart and kidney defects

FAS can also cause long-term behavioral problems. Kids with FAS often have problems getting along with others, and act out. This leads to problems at home, in school and the law. They are also at a greater risk of future drug addiction.

No alcoholic drinks are safe during pregnancy! Put your baby first and have a healthy baby!!!!
