Matthew 8:5-13 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” Note: We don’t know who this “servant” was, but most people think that it was one of his men.

Matthew 8:5-13 7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” Now if you were the Centurion soldier, what do you think your response would be? (Let’s see if it matches what he actually said) 8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

Matthew 8:5-13 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. Why do you think Jesus was so amazed at this Centurion’s request? Jesus was amazed just to be talking to a Centurion Most of the time people wanted Jesus to demonstrate His power The Centurion had some broccoli in his teeth B.

Respect for Authority=Respect for God Our Centurion was saying that he understood what it meant to be in charge and what it meant to respect those in authority over you. And he understood that because Jesus is in charge of everything Jesus had enough power to heal his servant without having to come to his house. Sometimes, respect is as simple as being able to take someone at their word. How do you demonstrate your respect to those whom God has put in your life?
