ACCELERATED ALGEBRA II HONORS Mrs. Sanchez

Accelerated Algebra II Honors The course involves a review of Accelerated Algebra I concepts, followed by the instruction of more difficult algebraic topics that are necessary for the study of higher-level math courses such as Honors Pre Calculus, AP Statistics and AP Calculus.

Tests/Quizzes There is typically a review before a test or quiz. Students know about tests and quizzes about a week in advance. (On the board) If they are absent on the day of the review, they are still responsible to take the test/quiz. If they are absent on the day of the test, they have to me by the end of the day to make an appointment with me to make it up before school or during lunch. Tests and quizzes count as 90% of the grade.

Textbooks Textbooks can be kept at home. In addition, each student was provided with a username and password to access the online version of the textbook that has extra examples, additional practice resources and an online tutor function.

Homework The assignment is always written on the board at the beginning of the period. It is the student’s responsibility to write it down. Homework counts as 10% of the grade and will be entered once a week.

Website The day after a homework assignment is given out, I will post up DETAILED solutions to every problem in the textbook on my webpage. Even if I assigned only evens, I will also post up the detailed solutions to the odds. That way students can look over the questions that they got incorrect or were confused about and understand how to do them.

Extra Help Everyday I am available before school after 7:30am and after school. Sometimes I have a zero period SAT prep class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, the math resource room is available. There is a teacher located in that room every lunch period and willing to help students with their questions.

Leveled Problems Although this is an Accelerated and Honors class, I will also provide students with leveled problems for each chapter. If a student needs more practice with easier problems before they tackle ours, they can practice Level A problems. Everyone should be able to do Level B problems. If a student needs more of a challenge, they can practice the level C problems. All solutions will be posted on my webpage.

Word Problems Students will be responsible for various word problem assignments to help them build overall communication, comprehension and critical thinking skills. All word problems must be handed in. If absent, a student can take a picture and must the assignment to me by the end of the day.

Extra Credit Bank Students have taken a pre-assessment. They received extra credit points based on how many questions they got correct. Whenever I return a test or quiz, students can use points from their bank to raise their score. Students may add points to the bank by submitting the “Mixed Review of Problem Solving” problems found in the textbook. There are two sets for every chapter.
