VIKINGS ANCIENT HISTORY

GEOGRAPHY THE VIKINGS LIVED IN NORTH-WESTERN EUROPE. THEY LIVED IN THE 8 TH CENTURY. THEY LIVED IN SCANDINAVIA.

FAMILY AND KIN THE VIKINGS HAD A GREAT SENSE OF FAMILY LOYALTY. THE MOTHERS TOOK CARE OF HOUSEHOLD MATTERS WHILE THE FATHERS WERE FREEMEN. THE KIDS WORKED HARD AND DIDN’T GO TO SCHOOL.

POLITICAL ORGANIZATION THE VIKINGS HAD VERY STRICT RULES. THE VIKINGS HAD KINGS BUT NO QUEENS. THERE WERE 3 CLASSES: SLAVE, FREEMAN, AND NOBLES.

COMMUNICATION THE VIKING’S LANGUAGE WAS CALLED OLD NORSE AND THE LETTERS WERE CALLED RUNES.

ECONOMICS THE VIKINGS ECONOMY INVOLVED HUNTING, FISHING, FARMING, AND TRADING GOODS SUCH AS GOLD AND OTHER RICHES.

TECHNOLOGY THE VIKINGS TECHNOLOGY INVOLVED WEAPONS, SHIPS, AND WARFARE.

BELIEFS AND RITUALS THE VIKINGS BELIEVED IN MANY GODS, WERE CHRISTIANS, AND WENT TO CHURCH.

EDUCATION THE VIKINGS DIDN’T GO TO SCHOOL, THEY WENT TO CHURCH, WERE HOME-SCHOOLED, THE FATHERS TAUGHT BOYS, THE MOTHERS TAUGHT GIRLS.

CREATIVE EXPRESSION THE VIKINGS LIKED TO CRAFT, MAKE JEWELRY, PLAY GAMES, LISTEN TO MUSIC, AND TELL STORIES.

FOOD THEY MADE WHEAT INTO BREAD, ATE FISH, AND FRUIT.

CLOTHING THEY WORE WARM CLOTHES, SKIRTS, AND THEY WERE MADE OUT OF WOOL.

SHELTER THE VIKINGS MADE THEIR HOUSE OUT OF WOOD, TURF, OR STONE. THE HOUSES HAD NO WINDOWS.
