The BPP were committed to a violent way to get their rights. They made physical actions to make people give them rights. For example on April 6, 1968 an armed confrontation between Black Panthers and police led to 90 minute confrontation at a building housing Panthers. Eventually, the panthers surrendered. Over the course of the day, at least four policemen were wounded and one killed. One panther member, Bobby Hutton, was killed by the police and seven others were arrested.

 The 10 step program was like the bible of The Black Panther. It listed all the rights the BPP wanted for all blacks. It gave the BPP the rights they deserved to continue on with their lives but with the rights they deserved.  1. We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black Community.  2. We want full employment for our people.  3. We want an end to the robbery by the white man of our Black Community.  4. We want decent housing, fit for shelter of human beings.  5. We want education for our people  6. We want all Black men to be exempt from military service.

7. We want an immediate end to police brutality and murder of black people. 8. We want freedom for all black men held in federal, state, county and city prisons and jails. 9. We want all Black people when brought to trial to be tried in a court by a jury. 10. We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace.
