Integrated Math 2 Lesson #7 Systems of Equations - Elimination Mrs. Goodman
Elimination Method (Linear Combination) Step 1 : Multiply one or both of the equations by a constant to obtain coefficients that differ only in sign for one of the variables. (Ex: 2x and -2x; 3y and -3y)
Elimination Method (Linear Combination) Step 2 : Add the revised equations from Step 1. This should eliminate one of the variables. Solve for the other variable.
Elimination Method (Linear Combination) Step 3 : Substitute the value found in Step 2 into either of the original equations and solve for the other variable.
Examples Solve: 6x – y = 14 2x + y = 12
Examples Solve: 3x + y = 14 x – 5y = 25
That’s all for today! Thanks for working hard! See you next time!
