Fill in the blanks: The _____________ utility in Windows’ Accessories is used for running audio CD. For recording sound, there must be _________ in the system unit. The resolution of a picture is measured in units of _________. The amount of the scanner light reflected from a picture is sent to the computer in a _________ language Good scanning resolutions are obtained with a _________ DPI to an _________ DPI scanner.

Fill in the blanks: The Windows Media Player utility in Windows’ Accessories is used for running audio CD. For recording sound, there must be Sound Recorder in the system unit. The resolution of a picture is measured in units of DPI. The amount of the scanner light reflected from a picture is sent to the computer in a Digital language. Good scanning resolutions are obtained with a 300 DPI to an 8000 DPI scanner.

Name the following: 1) The language which computer understands. Ans- Binary, Digital, Machine language. 2)An input device to record your voice. Ans- Microphone. 3)The piece of hardware to which the loudspeakers or a headphone must be connected. Ans- Sound card. 4)The piece of hardware you will need to see television. Ans- TV-tuner Card. 5)The Windows software to play back sound. Ans- Windows Media Player.

State True or False: A motion picture cannot be viewed on a multimedia computer. Ans- False. Many headphones have an attached microphone. Ans- True. A CD is devise to store information. Ans- True. You cannot watch a movie using Media Player. You cannot adjust the playback volume in Media Player. Ans-False. A lower laser light is used to write on a writable compact disc. A microphone is used for listening to digitally recorded sound. A computer understands only the digital language. The device used to input a picture into a computer is called Paint. Scanner is an output device.

What is multimedia computer? Ans: A multimedia computer system integrates two or more types of media, such as text, graphic images, sound (audio) and video. It can create import, store, retrieve, edit and delete any of these types of media materials.

State the hardware and software you need in your computer to run multimedia applications. Ans: A multimedia hardware include speakers or headphone, microphone, CD-drive, sound card, video or TV-input card and camera attachment. You will also need multimedia software like Sound Recorder and Media Player etc.

What is sound recording? Ans: Sound recording means to record our voice in computer using microphone and appropriate software.

) What is the use of a compact disc? Ans: Compact disc is used to store picture, text files, songs and movies.

What is meant by scanning a picture? Ans: The process of capturing a picture as a grid of small dots and converting the color information of each dot into the digital language of the computer is called Scanning a picture.

What are the advantages of a scanner? Ans: Advantages of a scanner are as follows 1)A picture scanned into a computer can be saved permanently for future. 2)A scanned picture can be edited using appropriate software. You can change its size and proportion, color and resolution to suit your purpose. You can save both the original and edited picture. 3)A scanned photographs, drawings and text can be combined together, as in designing a book for magazine.

Write in brief the construction of a flat bed scanner. Ans: A flat-bed scanner is a rectangular box with a flat, transparent glass on top. There is an opaque hinged cover to protect the glass surface from the dust and scratches. Inside the box, the scanning lamp and a sensor strip are moved very slowly along the length of the box.

State the different types of scanners available. Ans: Scanners can be classified in two ways, by scanning size and scanning resolution. Scanning size: Hand held scanner A4 size scanners Half-imperial size scanners Scanning resolutions : Scanning resolutions depend upon the sharpness of an image that you see on the monitor or on a printed page depend on the number of dots per inch. This sharpness is called resolution.

What precautions will you take while using a scanner? Ans: (1)The glass top surface of the flat-bed scanner must be kept free from dust and finger prints. Dust blurs your scanned image and also leaves permanent scratch marks on the glass surface. So that, the next scanned image will not be sharp. (2)The glass top is pretty costly distortion-free glass. It should not be subjected to any heavy pressure and obviously no heavy object should be kept on it. (3)The opaque cover should be in place before beginning a scan.

Sound Card. Ans: The sound card converts the sound signals from a microphone into digital sound data for editing and storage in a computer. For playback, it converts the digital sound data into analog form before sending it to the loudspeakers.

TV Tuner card Ans: A TV Tuner card is a special type of video card. The cable-TV connection is given to the TV Tuner card then; you can see the television programs on your computer’s monitor or store them for future viewing.

Mute button in Media Player Ans: It is use to turn the sound on or off.

Shuffle button in Media Player Ans: To turn shuffle on or off. If the shuffle is turned on, items in a playlist or tracks on a CD are played in a random order.
