Animal Health Status of FMD The last FMD outbreaks in Jordan were in 2006 Measures in case of Outbreak: Quarantine Control on border check points Movement of live animals and animal products were restricted Compulsory routine vaccination was held in infected zones and prophylactic (free) vaccination was held in whole country .

- The eradication was implemented by veterinary service of Jordan( modified stamping out) - Disease surveillance and control measures are implemented by vaccination in the whole country. - Lab. Confirmation A-iran-05,O-pan Asia-2

Cattle vaccinated up to four times, sheep and goats two times annually. Private sector are able to import and vaccinate.

An annual vaccination programme is implemented Field Isolates O PanAsia2 ►covered by O Manisa A Iran 05 ► covered by A Iran 2005 In 2006 the R.L Recommend to use (O Manisa + A22) for cattle and (O Manisa ) for Sheep NOW the vaccine contains, 4 serotype (Liquid inactivated of O Pan Asia 2, O1 Manisa, A22, A Iran 2005)

Progressive Control Pathway [pcp] FMD spreads in the country FMD High Risk Zones: Villages and farms bordering to country which have no transparency and sharing information. Live animal market and backyard farms. - There is no control on animal movement between the villages in side the country.

Progressive Control Pathway [pcp] Entering of FMD to Jordan From other countries; From not controlled occupied transit country in the region; Jordan is one of the biggest transit country in the region ; Possible risk from wild animals; Cross-border livestock trade .

Main challenges regarding 1) Surveillance: No Surveillance project is applied, Clinical surveillance for early detection of FMDv A- In response to any notification from the field B- Tested for (imported and exported animals) C- Shortage in Lab Kits 2)Vaccination - It is imported and sometimes, takes time to reach Jordan

4) Shortage of vets in M.o.A and the technical staff. 3)movement control - huge amount animal movement in seasonal pastures (winter and summer) inside the country - No movement control inside the country - For importation and transit of animals, the international Law is applied (OIE &WTO) 4) Shortage of vets in M.o.A and the technical staff. 5) There is No Compensatory strategy in case of Outbreak( modified stamping out)

On-going control Program/ Projects No national Project for Surveillance and eradication for FMD BUT: * Control Programmes 1) Regular Vaccination 2) Control on border check points and Quarantine 3) importation of live animals and animal products according to Terrestrial code of OIE

Possibility to Prepare a dossier To OIE we can prepare a dossier according to our health and current field situation and the facilities available in our central lab.

Preparation of FMD Control Project for donation we can prepare a proposal for the Jordanian ministry of agriculture Project for FMD for donation.

Expected Support 1) Financial, Lab Kits and chemical reagents, active surveillance 2) Training at local and international level on : - Surveillance and control strategy - Data analysis - Preparation and approval of contingency plan. - lab staff training - Risk analysis - international trade law
