2 22 New Elected Bureau 2015-2018 Kassem Al Qahtani (Qatar) President Abdelghany Al Fadhl (KSA) Vice President Elias Ibrahim (Lebanon) Vice President Salah Fadhl Abbas (Iraq) Secretary General OUR VISION: strengthening the role of the bureau by: - allocating specific dossiers to each member; - improving the dialogue within the bureau, with the RR ME & with the delegates (regular meetings using new technologies); - implicating more the region into the works of the OIE (cf. regional seminar in March 2016) Hadi Al Lawati (Oman) OIE council member

3 33 Regional Commission Activities Main objectives 1.Tackle specific regional animal health and welfare problems. 2.Improve the quality of Veterinary Services in accordance with the OIE standards (PVS pathway). 3.Establish cooperation and harmonisation of strategies between the countries of the Middle East. … with the technical support of the OIE regional representation and the OIE reference laboratories and Collaborating Centers, … through the holding of regular scientific meetings

4 44 The funding of the RR ME depends on:  annual voluntary contribution of the Lebanese gov. (110 000 USD)  10% of the annual contributions of regional Members (32 634 USD in 2014) Not enough to support the annual budget of the RR ME due to: the small number (12) of contributing countries covered by the RR ME the law category levels of the contributions to OIE Extra categories are opened at the OIE World Fund for countries willing to support funding regional activities (in their country and in neighbouring countries with less resources to strengthen capabilities of Veterinary services). Financial contributions To support the work of the RR CE and the RR ME, it would be appreciated that the delegates of the Middle East advocate internally for higher financial contributions in line with the national level of economic development
