Monday, May 23, 2011 No Bell Ringers for the rest of the year!! But still have a seat and be quiet please!

Senior Finals – June 1 st  Next week – reteach objectives never mastered throughout the year  Exs: Labeling heart anatomy, Use directional terms to explain body parts, etc.  Why??

While we review for your final… We are going to give you last minute study tips for next year Each day will focus on a different technique that you can use to help you succeed in your classes next year

So…to me you are college students now. Which means…  I am not always going to tell you how or when to take notes.  You are in charge of doing what you need to so that you can master these objectives on the exam  I will post documents and ppts to the website so you can study from home  As always, you are responsible for getting any make up work from your peers, not the teacher.

Today’s Goals:  Master Obj: Use Directional Terms to Relate Parts of the Body  Unit 1  Overall Mastery after Test: 68.5%  Distance to goal: 11.5%  Use Study Tools: Songs & Rhymes

Directional Terms Background  Anterior = front  The face is anterior to the butt  Posterior = back  The spine is posterior to the belly button  Superior = above, up  The nose is superior to the mouth  Inferior = below, down  The toes are inferior to the knees

Directional Terms Background  Proximal = closer to trunk of body  The shoulder is proximal than the elbow  Distal = further from trunk of body  The knees are distal than thigh  Medial = closer towards the middle of body  The nose is medial to the ears  Lateral = farther from the middle of the body  The wrists are lateral to the chest

Songs & Rhymes  Music is extremely helpful for learning new material  We used this when we learned our anatomical terms song

Anatomical Terms Song (to the tune of Yankee Doodle) Orbital, Nasal, Oral, Thoracic Abdominal, Carpal, Digitals Pubic, Patellar, and your Tarsals That makes up the Anterior Turn around and let’s do the Posterior Starting with the Deltoids Vertebral, Gluteal and the Femoral Those are our anatomical terms!

Overall Mastery for objective: Define Anatomical Terms: 94.2%

Directional Terms Poem: Superior is up, Inferior is down Anterior towards the front, Posterior: turn around! Distal has distance, Proximal is close Lateral is away, Medial is your nose

Obj: Use Directional Terms to Relate Parts of the Body 1. The feet are _______________ to the knees a) Proximal b) Superior c) Inferior d) Anterior Answer: c) Inferior (The feet are below the knees)

Obj: Use Directional Terms to Relate Parts of the Body 2. The shoulders are _____________ to the belly button a) Medial b) Inferior c) Anterior d) Lateral Answer: d) Lateral (The shoulders are away from the midline compared to the belly button)

Obj: Use Directional Terms to Relate Parts of the Body 3. The fingers are _______________ to the elbows a) Proximal b) Distal c) Superior d) Posterior Answer: b) Distal (The fingers are farther from the trunk of the body than the elbows)

Obj: Use Directional Terms to Relate Parts of the Body 4. The chest is __________________ to the back a) Proximal b) Superior c) Posterior d) Anterior Answer: d) Anterior (The chest is towards the front compared to the back)

Obj: Use Directional Terms to Relate Parts of the Body 5. The nose is ______________ to the hips a) Distal b) Medial c) Inferior d) Posterior Answer: b) Medial (The nose is closer to the midline than the hips)
