1 Medical Terminology Bellwork Instructions:
EVERY WEEK: Monday: As you enter the classroom you will get your vocabulary notebook from your class bin; Then you will copy the terms listed on the screen on a clean page in your notebook; We will then write/review/discuss the definitions to each term. Tues – Fri.: As you enter the classroom, you will get your vocabulary notebook and answer the questions on the screen using the words and definitions from that week’s list; You will then return the notebook to your class bin. ON FRIDAY: Make sure you have answered the questions from each day that week. Remember that you are responsible for getting the questions from any day you were absent or late! On Friday, you will turn in your notebooks for grading. The questions from that week will be graded and used as an assessment grade!!!

3 Medical Terminology – List 1
Anatomical Position – standing erect, arms at the side of the body, feet and toes pointing forward, palms of hands facing forward, eyes straight ahead Sagittal Plane – vertical plane, runs lengthwise from front to back and divides the body, or any of its parts, into right and left portions. Frontal Plane – vertical plane, runs lengthwise from side to side and divides the body into front and back portions Transverse Plane - horizontal plane, runs parallel to the ground and divides the body or its parts into upper and lower portions Superior – more toward the head; above another structure Inferior – more toward the feet; below another structure

Anterior – more toward the front side of the body Posterior – more toward the back of the body Lateral – to the side; away from the midline of the body Medial – to the middle; toward the midline of the body Axial skeleton – head, neck, and trunk portions of the skeleton Thorax – entire chest region of the body

Below you will find an anatomical direction, and two structures on the body. For each direction, choose the structure that is closer to that anatomical direction. (Consider anatomical position when choosing the correct answer!) Anterior - Ear / Nose Superior – Shoulder / Knee Medial – Mouth / Shoulder Posterior – Eye / Spine
