Freshman Year  Accelerated English 9 6 Credits (one double period or lab per week) or  English 9 CP 5 Credits and  Techniques of Writing 2 Credits (4 days a week – one semester)

Freshman Year  English 9 Literature - Hiroshima - Romeo and Juliet - Twelve Angry Men - To Kill a Mockingbird - Mythology - The Odyssey - Bless Me, Ultima  Accelerated English 9 Literature - Hiroshima - Romeo and Juliet - Twelve Angry Men - To Kill a Mockingbird - Mythology - The Odyssey - Bless Me, Ultima - Brave New World - 12 th Night - Antigone - The Iliad

Freshman Year Writing Research Paper – based on an historical or contemporary issue of student’s choice Paragraphs/essays (literature based and other) - Cause and effect -Comparison and contrast -Narration -Description -Exposition Personal writing Creative writing

Is Accelerated Right for Me?  Does the student enjoy reading?  Does the student read at a quick pace?  Does the student enjoy writing?  There is about 1/3 more reading and writing assigned in the accelerated courses.

Accelerated 9 Requirements  95 Average  Teacher Recommendation (about 25% of the 8 th Grade class was recommended with a 95 average)  All English Courses Have Summer Reading Assignments
