What is matter ? Solid Liquid Gas A solid is shaped in a cube. The particles in the cube are packed closely together like an ice cube. The atoms also vibrate. Here are some few ex. of a solid. 1. ice cube 2. blocks 3. book 4. iPad 5. iPhone Liquid A liquid takes shape of a container. The particles in a liquid are farther apart and move more freely. Here are some few ex. of a liquid. 1. nail polish remover 2. hand sanitizer 3. soda 4. juice 5. blood Gas A gas is something that like fills the air. The particles in a gas move more rapidly and bounce around everywhere. Here are some few ex. of a gas. 1. when u spray perfume 2. steam 3. pollution 4. car gas 5. mist Well matter is the space inside an object. Matter can be broken up into 3 (States of matter). Solid, Liquid, and Gas. Siddique =

Physical Property Chemical Property Physical property are characteristics that can be observed or measured without changing the substance. Density Fracture Cleavlege Color Luster A chemical property is used to characterize materials in reactions that change their identity. Rusting Color change Temputure change Flammable Gas given off

Physical change Chemical change A physical change is when the appearance or shape of a substance is changed. Ripping paper Ice cream melting Freezing water Boiling water Cutting wood A chemical change is how a substance reacts to another substance. Burning wood Burning gasoline Rusting a pan Burning paper fireworks

What is an atom? An atom is inside of matter. You cant break it down any further. The parts of and atom are neutrons, protons, and electrons. Even with a microscope you couldn’t see an atom, its to small. A neutron is neutrally charged. A proton is positively charged. Last, a electron is negatively charged.

What is an element? An element is matter made up of only one kind of atom. There are 115 known elements and only 90 of them occur naturally on Earth. Oxygen Nitrogen Silver Aluminum iron

What is a compound? A compound is a substance who's smallest unit is made up of atoms of more than one element. More than one element is combined. Water (H2O) Hydrogen ( H2O2) peroxide

Periodic table The periodic table organizes the elements It also has a key to tell us what state of matter the element is in. Additionally it lets u know what type of material is it.

The difference between them is that a substance is only one thing like water. A mixture would be a mix of things like salt water. Substance mixtures A substance is matter that has the same fixed composition and properties. Mixtures are combinations of substances that are not bonded together and can be physically separated.

Heterogeneous and Homogeneous mixture. A Heterogeneous mixture is where the substances are not evenly mixed. We could see every individual part. The seeds in a watermelon The fruit in the fruit salad The icing in the cake The words on the book The hair on the skin A Homogeneous mixture contains 2 or more substances that are evenly mixed. We cant see each individual part. ice cream Pepsi Juice Soap twisler

Solutions Solute Solvent A solute is the substance that dissolves or seems to disappear. Sugar Baking soda Salt Kool aid powder iodine The substance that dissolves the solute is called solvent. Water

What does solubility mean Solubility is a measurement that describes how much solute dissolves in a given amount of solvent. Meaning that if there is more solute that solvent then it wont dissolve.
