AMSE - collaboration with WFME, and others, for our common aims in Europe David Gordon President, Association of Medical Schools in Europe and University of Copenhagen

Background to this talk AMSE and WFME in MEDINE With which organisations do we work, and why? Other partnerships – ORPHEUS (biomedical PhD standards in Europe), the Nordic Research Conference, and more The Avicenna project For whose benefit?

Our highly successful partnership with WFME on quality standards is an example of joint working for the common good AMSE is concerned with all the activities of the medical school – teaching, of course, but also research, the interaction with health care, the university...

The Nordic Research Conference 3. Working with ORPHEUS (Aarhus, April 2009, and AMSE 2009) The Nordic Research Conference

“The Avicenna Directories: where and how - and how well - the world’s professionals in health care are educated” www.avicennadirectories.org Why is AMSE involved in mapping all the world’s medical schools, not just in Europe? (- a convergence of interests: contact data, quality assurance, healthcare planning etc) Lancet Vol. 371 22 March 2008 pp 966 - 967

In all these examples, we are – and must be – working to help all This means not just for the good of the organisations involved, but for general benefit.

Someone said…. “Quality Assurance is an essential tool Because of the Bologna process Because of the Lisbon objectives Because of its impact on strengthening institutions and QC and QA will ensure: Trust Transparency Improvement of quality levels”

... and he should have said Quality Assurance is an essential tool - for improvement of quality levels - to strengthen institutions - to improve transparency and to enhance trust - and because of the Bologna process - and because of the Lisbon objectives

It will be good to see you.. - in Zagreb 2009 - in Berlin 2010 www.amse-med.eu
