6 Interesting Facts about LIME Leads delivery of the MBChB, intercalated undergraduate degrees and also many postgraduate degrees Dr James Pickering has picked up 2 prestigious awards (Learning Technologist of the Year; Times Higher Most Innovative Teacher of the Year) Technology Enhanced Learning team shortlisted in Times Higher Awards for RRAPID ebook and APP Winner of ASPIRE-to excellence award for student assessment Professor Trudie Roberts is President of the Association of Medical Education in Europe and in the Executive Council of the World Federation for Medical Education

8 Update from GMC visit GMC visit October 2014 – very favourable report! Identified several areas of good practice: IDEALS (Innovation, Development, Enterprise, Leadership and Safety) encompassing ethics, professionalism and patient safety Approach to professionalism Patient and Public Involvement Technology Enhanced Learning

9 GMC Recognition and Approval of Trainers (2012) http://www.gmc-uk.org/education/10264.asp Medical educators (that meet specific criteria) need to demonstrate that they meet the standards laid out by the GMC. This will need to be evidenced at appraisal under current plans. Qualifying medical educators include: Named educational supervisors in postgraduate training Named clinical supervisors in postgraduate training Lead coordinators of undergraduate training at each local education provider Doctors responsible for overseeing students’ educational progress for each medical school. 10 Leeds Institute of Medical Education School of Medicine GMC has articulated 7 areas qualifying Medical Educators need to evidence (originally set out by Academy of Medical Educators): Ensuring safe and effective patient care through training Assuring Competency; Student Induction Establishing and maintaining an environment for learning Planning Learning; Equality and Diversity Teaching and facilitating learning Teaching Skills; Deliver curriculum Enhancing learning through assessment Effective Feedback; Assessment Apps Supporting and monitoring educational progress Identifying Students in Difficulty; Creating Learning Objectives Guiding personal and professional development Career Support; Mentoring Continuing professional development as an educator Peer Observation; Regulatory Requirements

11 How LIME CPD can direct your learning All CPD courses, workshops and conferences run through LIME (including Clinicians Day, Student Support Conference, Annual Skills etc.) are mapped to the GMC standards. Attendance at any course shall be recorded along with the criteria earned. This mapping exercise is not designed to guarantee that medical educators attending LIME events will become accredited trainers, rather that attendance at LIME events can be used by those attending in their appraisal as part of a portfolio of evidence. All CPD courses, workshops and conferences run through LIME are also mapped to the Academy of Medical Educators Framework.
