AQA A Level Product Design – Project OverviewName: AS (Unit 2 Coursework) CAD CAMIlluminationHang Ups Overview During this project, you will develop your design, modelling and CAD skills. You will be designing and prototyping a handheld consumer electronic product for a specific client group. You will use 3D CAD software to develop your design and then prototype it using CAM. You will need to produce a concise design folio, containing the following (the number of pages for each task is shown in brackets): 1.Front Cover (1) 2.Brief, Situation and Outline Specification (1) 3.Existing Products Research (1) 4.Client Research (1) 5.Design Ideas - Hand Drawn (2) 6.CAD Modelling (1) 7.CAD Presentation (1) 8.Product Photos (1) 9.Testing and Evaluation (1) You need to produce one high quality CAM prototype of your final design idea. ILT: Rapid Prototyping research essay Overview During this project, you will develop your ability to respond to a Design Brief, work within a chosen context and develop your making skills and confidence. You will design and manufacture a product to provide illumination in an area of your choice. You will need to produce a concise design folio, containing the following (the number of pages for each task is shown in brackets): 1.Front Cover (1) 2.Brief, Situation and Outline Specification (1) 3.Context Analysis (1) 4.Primary Research (1) 5.Product Analysis - Magazine Article (1) 6.Initial Design Ideas (5) 7.Developed Design Ideas (2) 8.Card Modelling (1) 9.Materials Research (1) 10.Specification (1) 11.Production Plan - QA / QC (1) 12.Manufacturing Diary (2) 13.Testing, Modifications and Evaluation (2) You need to produce a high quality final product, demonstrating a range of skills and processes. ILT: Iconic designers research Overview During this project, you will develop your primary research skills and the ability to produce high quality, simple designs. You will design and manufacture a product which fits into the theme of ‘Hang Ups’. You will need to produce a concise design folio, containing the following (the number of pages for each task is shown in brackets): 1.Front Cover (1) 2.Gantt Chart (1) 3.Brief, Situation and Outline Specification (1) 4.Mind Map (1) 5.Existing Products Moodboard (1) 6.Primary Research - Context Photos (1) 7.Design Ideas (2) 8.CAD Presentation (1) 9.Testing and Evaluation (1) You need to produce a high quality, very simple final product, demonstrating a range of skills and processes. ILT: Materials and processes research

AQA A Level Product Design – Project OverviewName: A2 (Unit 4 Coursework) Overview: Unit 4 is your final major project, in which you will need to identify a problem and then design and develop a prototype product to solve it. This is a very demanding project, you will need to produce a substantial design folio and a high quality product. Time management is essential! You will need to produce a substantial design folio, containing the following (the minimum number of pages for each task is shown in brackets): 1.Front Cover (1) 2.Gantt Chart (1) 3.Mind Map (1) 4.Introduction, Brief and Situation (1) 5.Research Plan (1) 6.Primary Research (2) 7.Client Profile (1) 8.Questionnaire and Results (2) 9.Moodboard (1) 10.Existing Products (2) 11.Anthropometric Research (1) 12.Technical Research - Including Materials (3) 13.Sustainability / Industrial Links Research (1) A high quality prototype product must be manufactured, which demonstrates a range of skills, using a selection of different materials. 14.Analysis of Research (2) 15.Final Specification (1) 16.Initial Design Ideas (5) 17.Developed Design Ideas (5) 18.Card Modelling (1) 19.Final Design Presentation (1) 20.CAD Modelling / Presentation (2) 21.Production Plan - Including QA/QC and H&S (2) 22.Session Plan / Manufacturing Diary (4) 23.Modifications (2) 24.Final Product Photos (1) 25.Testing and Evaluation (2) 26.Bibliography (1) Assessment: The assessment of the project is split into six sections, with the maximum overall mark available being 85. There will be a number of deadlines throughout the year, requiring each section of the project to be completed and submitted for assessment. The assessment criteria for the top level in each section can be seen opposite.
