There are now 9,000 Esso-branded service stations, serving fuel and non-fuel products to about 4 million European customers a day. We employ 24,000 people directly - and many thousands more indirectly. To put it simply, Europe is a key area for us, representing about one quarter of our global revenue and investment. Directly relevant to today’s discussion, though, is our global expertise in research and development, in which we lead our industry. In Europe, 1,900 scientists and engineers are working for ExxonMobil. On a worldwide basis, we employ 20,000 scientists and engineers and almost 2000 PhDs. Every year, we spend around $600 million on energy-related research. Part of which, of course, is directed at identifying and developing the fuels and related technologies of tomorrow.
