Egyptian life Hello and welcome to Lisa, Millie, Katie and Claire’s presentation! 

The life of men and women Men were treated as more important than women, farmers passed down their farm land to their sons. Craftsmen taught there sons to do their jobs so that there sons could take over from them when they die. When the men got older the family respected them more.

Marriage Girls got married at the age of 11, their husbands where normally a lot older. The wedding only consisted of the parents of the couple agreeing of the marriage. Then the bride had to leave the home and enter a new one. If the Egyptians got divorced they went back to there families house and they could get married again (if they wanted to)

Children Small children lived with their mother and other family relatives in a special part of the house. The children’s clothes were simple and made of linen. Sometimes they hade leather or reed sandals, and most wore bracelets or necklace of beads. It was the custom to shave boy’s heads, leaving only one plaited lock. This was cut off when the child reached 12 years.

Houses Egyptian people built mud brick houses. Ordinary people painted their houses white inside. More important people had more rooms, more space and more furniture. They had elaborate wall paintings that they used for entertaining. They had toilets and washing rooms, but no drains. They collected the washing water and toilet waste to put on the field. Ordinary used the fields as toilets and used they river and a toilet.

More about Houses Ancient Egyptians homes were built to cope with the hot dry weather. They were built two or three story’s high, squashed in rows.

Cleaning Cleansing rituals were important in Ancient Egypt because they thought appearance indicated a persons status or roll in society. People rubbed their self with perfume oils made of flowers or scented wood mixed with oil and fat that was left until it absorbed the scent.
